Soil Health is Our Common Ground - Grassroots Carbon

Soil health may be one of the most important bipartisan opportunities in America and one of the biggest opportunities to drive real impact across the 655 million acres of grasslands in the United States.

That’s become very clear to me after spending time with both Al Gore and Robert F. Kennedy Jr. discussing the work Grassroots Carbon is doing alongside ranching families across the country.

Two people from very different political worlds.

But when you start talking about supporting working lands, rebuilding the American cattle industry, strengthening rural economies, and creating healthier food systems, politics begin to fade into the background and the conversation becomes about the future of America itself.

At Grassroots Carbon, we are proud to work alongside nearly 300 ranching families across 22 states and 2.5 million acres while paying more than $40 million directly to the ranchers doing the hard work on the ground to store carbon in healthy soils through improved grazing practices.

What excites me most is that this work is bringing together people who normally sit on opposite sides of the table and has our team traveling from Bandera, Texas to San Francisco, California in the same week.

* Democrats and Republicans
* Working families and Fortune 500 companies
* Conservation organizations and corporate America

We are all invested in healthier land, healthier food systems, stronger rural communities, and a stronger America.

The United States already has 655 million acres of grasslands and more than 86 million head of cattle. The land, the livestock, and the leadership already exist.

The future will not be built by choosing between agriculture and the environment. It will be built by reconnecting them.

Soil health is our common ground.
