Boeing Signs First-Ever Soil Carbon Agreement

SAN ANTONIO, March 31, 2026Boeing [NYSE: BA] and Grassroots Carbon, a pioneering Texas-based soil carbon removal company and regenerative ranching partner, today announced a multi-year strategic offtake agreement under which Boeing will purchase a minimum of 40,000 metric tons of verified carbon removal credits.

Generated through soil carbon sequestration from regenerative ranching and improved grassland management across the United States, the credits connect responsible aviation growth with a solution that can be deployed immediately across millions of acres while strengthening the long-term resilience and productivity of U.S. working ranches. The agreement supports ranches implementing regenerative grazing practices that increase soil organic carbon, improve water retention, and strengthen ecosystem resilience, while delivering verified carbon removal.

Credits will be generated through Grassroots Carbon’s soil carbon program, which is built on direct one-meter deep, field-level soil measurements and laboratory analysis.  An independent third-party verifies and certifies the measurements using recognized carbon standards to validate the atmospheric carbon stored in healthy soils across the country.

For Boeing, this purchase agreement represents a significant step toward scaling high-quality and diverse carbon removal technologies to support aviation industry goals of reducing net emissions. Under the agreement, Boeing will apply carbon removal credits to address its residual Scope 3 – category 6 emissions associated with business travel.

“We’re proud to work with Grassroots to accelerate carbon-removal technology that will benefit the entire global aviation industry,” said Allison Melia, vice president, Global Enterprise Sustainability, Boeing. “Enabling the long-term growth of air travel and supporting our airline customers’ emissions reduction targets are key priorities for Boeing.”

Soil carbon removal through regenerative grassland management represents one of the largest and most immediately deployable opportunities for carbon removal in the United States. With more than 655 million acres of grasslands nationwide, regenerative grazing offers a pathway to deliver high-integrity carbon removal at meaningful scale while addressing increasing climate, economic, and operational pressures facing ranchers. Regenerative grazing offers a pathway to strengthen both land resilience and long-term productivity while delivering verified climate outcomes.

“This agreement with Boeing demonstrates the critical role that U.S. ranchers and grasslands are playing in delivering high-integrity carbon removal at scale,” said Brad Tipper, CEO of Grassroots Carbon. “By earning the trust of partners like Boeing, we are demonstrating that rigorously measured soil carbon can deliver durable carbon solutions at scale, while strengthening water resources, biodiversity, and rural economies.”

To date, Grassroots Carbon has removed 1.9 million tons of CO2, partnered with ranchers across 22-states and more than 2.2 million acres of U.S. grasslands, demonstrating the scalability and credibility of soil carbon removals when backed by a rancher-first and science-backed approach.
